1 dead in Moruca River boat collision

A two-boat collision in the Moruca River, Region One (Barima-Waini), on Friday evening has left at least one person dead. The accident occurred sometime around 19:30h in the vicinity of the Parakese Village along the Moruca River, one of the three sub-regions in the North West District (NWD).boat_accident

While details of the accident were sketchy up to press time, Guyana Times was able to confirm the death of 32-year-old Rodwell Daniels, a miner of Santa Rosa Village. He reportedly sustained serious injuries from thecollision.

According to reports reaching this newspaper, Daniels was operating a boat in the Moruca River, when it collided into another boat coming in the opposition direction. That boat was being driver by operator Thomas Norton, 32, of Kamwatta Village. Further information revealed that one of the boats was heading to Moruca while the other was leaving. Meanwhile, when contacted Friday night, F Division (Interior Locations) Commander, RavindradatBudhram, confirmed the accident and that Daniels died as result of the collision.

Budhram further indicated that Norton has been arrested and is assisting with the investigations.
