1 remanded, 5 fined after Onderneeming drug raid

David Marcus, called “Cook up”; Sanjay Gajardar, Kelly Cayne, Robert Benjamin, Balram Kanhai and Salim Narine where on Friday arraigned before Suddie Magistrate Esther Sam on an allegation detailing that a police raid conducted at Onderneeming, Essequibo Coast on August 8, 2017 netted them in possession of 30 grams of cannabis.
Police officers disguised as civilians had reportedly observed them from a distance bracing a fence in a yard at Onderneeming, Essequibo Coast, smoking the illegal substance and passing the narcotic to each other.
Police eventually approached the group and were able to confiscate leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis. The men were told of the offence, cautioned and arrested, while the prohibited substance was tested and found to be cannabis, thus the men were charged with the offence.
Almost all members of this group pleaded guilty to the charge, and each was fined 00 and was ordered to do three months’ community service. However, Marcus pleaded not guilty to the charge, and was remanded to prison until August 22.
