307 junior Police ranks promoted

Police Force’s 178th anniversary

As the Guyana Police Force celebrates its 178th anniversary, a total of 307 ranks were promoted by Police Commissioner Seelall Persaud. These promotions took effect from Saturday.
In a release issued by the Guyana Police Force, it stated that 66 ranks who were once Corporals were promoted to Sergeants, while 124 who held the position of Lance Corporals will now serve as Corporals and 76 Constables were promoted to Lance Corporals.
In addition, five Corporals in the Special Constabulary (regular ranks) were promoted to Sergeant while seven Lance Corporals were bumped up to the post of Corporal. A lone Constable was ascended to the post of Corporal due to diligent work in the department.
However, 12 Constables also moved up to the rank of Lance Corporal. With respect to the Special Constabulary (GUYSTAC) – two Corporals were promoted to the post of Sergeant; a Lance Corporal and a Constable were promoted to Corporal. Further, two Constables were elevated to the post of Lance Corporal in the GUYSTAC department.
Finally, the Rural Constables were not left out of the promotion list as three Corporals were given Sergeant portfolios, while six Constables were promoted to Lance Corporals.
Meanwhile, as the Force celebrates this milestone, ranks from all departments took to the streets of Georgetown on Saturday morning in a celebratory parade.
Taking the salutes were Public Security Minister Khemraj Ramjattan along with Police Commissioner Seelall Persaud. Also in attendance were the Commanders of the various divisions.
It was indeed a spectacle as the lawmen and women displayed their drill skills.
