Alpha awarded controversial victory over Pele

Slingerz secure top spot with 3-1 drubbing of Buxton United…

The Guyana Football Federation/Stag Elite League Finale continued on Wednesday evening with two contrasting games at the National Track and Field Facility at Leonora West Coast Demerara.
Slingerz FC have once again secured top spot in the Stag Elite League Finale with a 3-1 mauling of Buxton United. Slingerz, winners of the Genesis half of the Stag Elite League entered the game with thirty four (34) points, leading second place Fruta Conquerors by three points, with this victory over Buxton United; Slingerz have clinched top spot with a game to spare.
Trayon Bobb’s first half brace guided the title holders to victory. Bobb netted in the 37th and 45th minutes respectively to carry his tally to nine (9) goals in the Stag Elite League Finale. Domini Garnett also got on the score sheet with a goal in the 75th minute to finish Buxton off. Buxton’s lone goal came from Rondell Assanah in the 38th minute.

Slingerz FC are top of the table with thirty seven points while Buxton remain in sixth with eleven points.
In the second game of the double header, Alpha United faced off against old rivals Pele FC and the game ended in unusual fashion. The match was awarded to Alpha United FC as a result of Pele’s refusal to continue the game in the 27th minute when a second member of the Pele team was Red Carded. Gregory Richardson was the first to be sent off in the 25th and two minutes later Omario Williams in the 27th, both players were sent off for using abusive language towards the referee. Pele scored an own goal in the 19th minute while Daniel Wilson scored in the 26th just before the match was abandoned.
GFF has commenced an investigation into the on-field incident thus more details will be released following the conclusion of game.
Alpha United now moves on to twenty seven points leaving Pele in must win situation for their next match. Pele are currently in fourth position with seventeen points and are level with Guyana Defense Force (GDF), both sides have one game remaining. This sets up a thrilling season finale as the race for fourth heats up with both sides aiming to prolong their campaign in the final four showdown.
Action continues this evening at the National Track and Field Facility, Leonora when Buxton United take on Alpha United FC at 18:00 Hrs. The second game of the double header will see Monedderlust FC battle Slingerz FC at 20:30 Hrs.
