Berbice businessman robbed, beaten

Two armed men on Friday robbed and terrorised a Yakusari North, Black Bush Polder, Berbice, businessman after which they escaped with cash and other valuables. robbery
The businessman Jhodan, 71, who operates a service station, drinking spot and general store was severely beaten and left in his shop after the ordeal. He reportedly lives alone.
The man was reportedly found lying in a pool of blood with his hands bound and mouth gagged by a resident who went to the general store to make a purchase.
The bandits were armed with cutlass and a knife. The Police were contacted but no arrests were made.
This newspaper understands that the bandits are said to be teenagers.
Only on Thursday evening last bandits stormed the Hing Fa Chinese Restaurant in Newtown, Kitty, Georgetown, and carted off an undisclosed sum of money. The robbery reportedly occurred at about 23:30h.
Based on reports, the men confronted the owner as he stood outside and held him at gunpoint. They dragged him into the restaurant and demanded that he hand over the money. He was severely beaten and subsequently handed over an undisclosed sum of cash and other values.
These robberies were executed even as police reported that serious crimes had dipped by 17 per cent.
The Police also noted that there were decreases in gun-related robberies and others where instruments other than guns were used.
