Berbice records 4 rapes in 1 week

The Police Sexual Offences Unit in Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) is investigating four alleged instances of rape committed on females in the region over the past week.RAPE
Reports are the offences were committed at Corentyne, New Amsterdam, East Canje and Fort Ordinance.
One of the instances is a father who reportedly raped his 13-year-old daughter. He is expected to appear in court on Monday for the offence.
In another incident reported to the Police, a 13-year-old girl was found wandering on the Corentyne Highway and was taken to a nearby Police Station. During investigations, it was revealed that she was sexually assaulted by her uncle. She was subsequently committed to the New Opportunity Corps (NOC) on a charge of wandering. Police have since launched a search for the uncle.
Additionally, at Stanleytown, New Amsterdam and Fort Ordinance another two teens were raped also.
Meanwhile, Divisional Commander Assistant Commissioner Ian Amsterdam, during an interview with Guyana Times said that an investigation has been launched into all the incidents. “We have a couple of rape cases reported to us over the past week and we are investigating.
A lot of the rapes that have been committed were committed by persons who are trusted by family.
Once it is reported then we deal with it in an appropriate way,” the Commander told this newspaper.
