The threatening Surinamese have arrived yesterday and in speaking to the media sent out an ominous warning as there are out to spoil the home side’s fun.

Team Suriname comprises eight cars and three motorcycles and the drivers have stated that, “There is our surprise Honda that’s always improving; it does 10 seconds in the quarter-mile but what’s under there (the hood) is a big secret and it gets faster and faster.”

Guyana will be represented by a strong contingent headed by reigning champion Sean Persaud in his Toyota Caldina which destroyed all opponents at the season ending Meet in October last year.

Expected to provide adequate support for Persaud are Anand Ramchand, Peter Daby in their Mitsubishi Evo and Mazda RX7 machines respectively, while the confirmation of Rondell Daby’s Toyota Supra is always a welcomed feature.

The Toyota Supra is one of the most feared machines to take to the starting line in local Drag racing and providing that it is confirmed for today’s impending showdown it is anticipated that South Dakota will buzzing with excitement as fans will be eager to witness the confrontation between Daby, Persaud and the rest of the Dutch-speaking neighbours.

The Nissan GTRs owned by Mohammed’s Enterprise could be in line for stern test once more from counterparts from Suriname since Surinamese driver Prakash Lachman, whose fleet of cars includes a Nissan Skyline GT-R R34, is confident that his machine can hold-off the anticipated assault of the GTR Nismo.

The Nismo, which was undefeated at the last drag meet, is tuned by Switzer Performance, which is known for producing some of the fastest GTRs in the world.

Among the categories to be contested are the F Class – 14 Seconds Bracket, E Class – 13 Seconds Bracket, D Class – 12 Seconds Bracket, C Class – 11 Seconds Bracket, B Class – 10 Seconds Bracket, A Class – 9 Seconds Bracket and the 8 Seconds Bracket.

The Porta Tree Timing device with specialised starting lights will be used throughout the day.

Official free runs start at 9:00h with Qualifying set for an hour after while Knockout will begin at 11:00h.

Admission is $1,000 for adults while children under 12 years of age will pay $500.
