Blairmont, Young Warriors clinch semi-final spots

Splendid knocks by Guyana youth player Javid Karim and Berbice youth opener Alex Algoo lead their teams, Blairmont Cricket Club and Young Warriors Cricket Club to first innings points and to the semi-finals of the BCB/New York Business Group two innings under 19 cricket competition for teams in Berbice.

At D’Edward, Blairmont CC won the toss and invited Tucber Park to take first strike. After a poor start being at one stage 42 for 4, the visitors recovered to reach 267 all out. Trevon Caesar and Junior Williams put on 130 for the fifth wicket with the former top scoring with 88 and Williams 75. National under 15 all-rounder Leon Swammy contributed 52. Bowling for Blairmont CC, leg spinner Daniel Moses took 3 for 22 and pacer Keon Gangoo 3 for 39.
In reply, Blairmont CC ended on 270 for 5 to claim first innings earning a place in the semi-final against Albion CC at Albion. Samuel Jailall and Karim put on 70 for the first wicket and Karim and Zaheer Inshan 110 for the second wicket to break the back of their opposition attack. Karim finished on a magnificent 137, Inshan 47, Jailall and D Persaud 23 runs apiece. R Latcha with 2 for 7 was the only bowler that created an impression for Tucber Park.
Over at Cumberland, Port Mourant won the toss and were shot out for 76. They lost V Sanwasame and B Mangal quickly for one run each and never recovered. J Lancaster and K Kassim were the only batsmen scoring double figures with 25 and 10 runs respectively. Bowling for Young Warriors CC, Abdul Ramsammy took 3 for 11 off 6 overs, Berbice under 15 skipper Jevan Schultz 2 for 4 off 9 overs and Trevon Stanislaus 2 for 37 off 8 overs.
In reply, the home team was led by a magnificent 170 by Berbice under 19 opener Alex Algoo who clobbered the ball to all parts of the ground slamming 15 fours and 10 sixes. Ricardo Ramdehol supported with a patient 31 putting on exactly 150 runs partnership with Algoo as Young Warriors finished on 225 for 3 to take first innings points. They will now host Rose Hall Town in semi-final two.
The winners will clash in the final at the Albion Sports Complex on October 28 and 29 when members of the New York based group that sponsored the competition will be in attendance.
