Charity businessman fined, jailed for narco trafficking

Thirty-six-year-old Cort Demand, of Charity Village, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), will be spending the next three years behind bars, after he was found guilty of the charge of trafficking in narcotics.
Demand was also fined ,000 by Magistrate Sunil Scarce. The businessman was found with a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis on June 29, 2015 at his market stall. The leaves, when weighed, amounted to 35 grams.
During his first court appearance on June 30, 2015, he pleaded not guilty to the charge, and was then remanded to prison. A trial was conducted into the matter and on Monday, he was found guilty by Magistrate Scarce.
