Child Protection Week commenced in September of last year and will be celebrated each year for a week beginning on September 20.
Speaking to the media, Social Protection Minster, Volda Lawrence said that the Child Protection Week Programme started with the aim of reuniting children with their families, it has accomplished much since its commencement. Speaking on the success of the programme, the minster revealed that it is one that is now “picking up” under the Social Protection Ministry’s Awareness Programme.
“It is now picking up, more people are getting aware of it now under our awareness programme that we are doing with the help of the media and more people are coming forward. We are hoping that in 2017 to take it out to the large corporations and companies and so on to get some people in management and so on to foster a child or two children to help us to reduce the numbers not only in the government care but also in the private institutions, all of our children belong in a home”.
Child Protection Week 2016 concludes tomorrow.
