They reportedly dragged the man into the restaurant and demanded that he handed over the money.
After a while, they took him into the upper flat of the business place and started to assault him. Guyana Times understands that the gunmen threatened that if the restaurant owner did not hand over money and other valuables, they would shoot a relative.
When Guyana Times visited the scene, the proprietor was reluctant to speak to the media, but, from all indications, he was severely beaten. Police sources confirmed that the armed men escaped with an undisclosed sum of money.
Residents in the area explained that pain-filled screams were heard coming from the upper flat of the restaurant.
Neighbours were unsure of the number of bandits that stormed the business, but related that the ordeal lasted approximately 20 minutes. Although they attempted to call the Police using 911, it proved futile.
After the ordeal, the men discharged a round into the air and fled the scene in a waiting hire car. The Police have launched an investigation into the robbery, but no arrests have been made.
