The 42-year-old fisherman of Albouystown, Georgetown, was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which was read by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, detailing that on July 20, 2017, he unlawfully murdered Wong.

Bacchus, popularly known as “Choka Dhall”, was a composed figure in the prisoners’ dock and was ordered to return to court on August 14, for report and fixture.

Meanwhile, Prosecutor Arvin Moore told the court that the post-mortem results were outstanding.

This publication previously reported that the parties were engaged in a heated argument, which quickly escalated into an altercation. Fishermen in the area reportedly separated the combatants, but as Wong departed, his adversary rushed behind the now deceased man with a sharp object and dealt him a blow to his chest before escaping.

The injured Wong was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

When Guyana Times visited the Lot 14 Seaforth Street, Campbellville home of the deceased, other tenants related that he had worked at the Mei Tung Restaurant as a cook for quite some time, before later branching out into the fishing business. He and several other Chinese nationals had rented the house, but none was at home at the time. The Chinese national had reportedly arrived in Guyana as a child, leaving his parents back in China and was known as “Chiney Man” at the Meadow Bank wharf.

Wong was described as a peaceful and helpful individual.
