City woman busted with cocaine at Corentyne border

A city woman was on Thursday intercepted on the Corentyne, in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) as she tried to leave the country with a quantity of cocaine strapped to her leg. The woman from South Ruimveldt Gardens, Georgetown, was at the time at Corriverton foreshore, which is used as the ‘backtrack’ crossing to neighbouring Suriname.    Divisional Commander of Berbice Kevin Adonis confirmed the bust when contacted by Guyana Times. He related that acting on information, Police went to the area and after scrutinising same, saw the suspect acting in a suspicious manner. The woman was apprehended and a search carried out on her person during which the illegal substance was found. At the time, she allegedly had 668 grams of cocaine strapped to her right leg. The woman was taken into custody and is expected to appear at the Skeldon Magistrate’s Court to answer a trafficking in narcotics charge.
