DCC fall at final hurdle

UWI T20 tournament…

― lose to Cane Farm by 67 runs

Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) on Sunday went down in the final of the University of the West Indies (UWI) T20 Tournament in Trinidad and Tobago against local side Cane Farm by 67 runs.
Prior to the final, the Queenstown based club was unbeaten in five matches, and skipper Derwin Christain won his fifth successive toss, and inserted the opposition which was the winning remedy throughout the tournament.

Batting first, the star-studded Cane Farm surged to 217-7 from their allotted overs led by West Indies player Evin Lewis with a 35-ball 90 inclusive of 10 sixes and six fours and Roshan Primus with a 18-ball 43 (4x4s; 3x6s); Lendl Simmons chipped in with 26 from 27 balls.
Sherfene Rutherford 3-32 from four overs and Kellon Carmichael with 1-10 from four overs were the main strike men for DCC.
In response DCC folded with 150 all in 17.1 overs as Gajanand Singh impressive form continued with scoring 64 from 39 balls, his  fifth consecutive half-century but the rest of the batting failed to offer the needed support in the imposing run-chase. Carmichael (34) and Keemo Paul (24) tried valiantly.
Primus returned with the ball and took 4-39 and Ravi Rampaul chipped in with 2-19.
Singh was deemed Man-of the tournament while DCC’s Keemo Paul was deemed the best young player.
