Deadline for Republic Cup 4 registration is Thursday

The fourth edition of the Republic Cup which is organized by the Georgetown Softball Cricket League Inc. takes place from February 3 to 5 at various venues in the city. Registration is ongoing and teams are asked to confirm their participation on or before Thursday February 2.  Entries can be made through Russel Jadbeer on 225 4802, Mahendra Hardyal on 623 2704 or Samuel Kingston on 619 5103 or 692 8815. The tournament will be played in the open and masters’ (over 40) categories with an entrance fee of $50,000 per team in each category. According to organising secretary of the GSCL Inc, Kingston, the first eight teams in each division will be accepted.  The winning teams are likely to take home a trophy and $250,000 while the losing finalists will walk away with $50,000 and a trophy once the quota of eight teams per category has been met. Kingston said that there will also be prizes for the Player of the Match in the finals as well as the MVP in both divisions. The open category will be played with the supreme balls and only round handed bowling will be allowed while the masters’ segment will be played with the white ball and both round hand and wrist bowling will be accepted. Each team is required to submit a list of 15 players at the time of registration while passports will be used to verify the age of players in the masters category. Everest CC, Eve Leary, DCC, GNIC and GCC are the venues identified for the preliminary games on February 3 and 4 while the finals will be played at Everest CC on February 5.
