Driver slapped with 4 counts of causing

Twenty-six-year-old Glensford Stephen, a father of two of Dartmouth Village, Essequibo Coast, was on Wednesday slapped with four counts of causing by dangerous driving when he appeared before Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on May 13, 2016, the defendant drove minibus BRR 3943, in a manner dangerous to the public thereby causing the death of Gavin Lawrie, 19; Levon Grey, 45; Esan Cornette, 19 and Stefon Benn, 19.

the defendant.

However, Police Prosecutor Khemraj Ramsewack objected to bail, citing the prevalence and the seriousness of the offence.

He pointed out to the Court that an additional eight persons were still hospitalised as a result of the accident. As such, Stephen was remanded to prison.

The case will continue on June 8, 2016.

According to reports about 23:00h on May 13, Stephen who was driving his minibus was heading south along the Richmond Public Road when he collided with a 212 blue car, PMM 5867, which was heading north. At the time of the accident, the minibus had 16 passengers while the car was driven by the deceased Gavin Lawrie, and had four passengers.
