(EBD) resulting in major damages to the building’s interior.
Dismissing the likelihood that the fire could have been electrical in origin, devotees strongly suspect it was an act of arson because of several threats that were recently received.
Guyana Times understands this is the second time the House of Worship has been vandalised.
The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha has since expressed outrage over the incident, which the Body deemed as “horrific” and “heartless”.
“A beautiful and welcoming Mandir now lies destroyed and the devotees are heartbroken.
Our prayers are with them. We pray that the Mandir could be repaired in the shortest possible time and that any perpetrator of this act should be dealt with by the justice system swiftly,” the Sabha said in a brief statement to the media.
Investigations are ongoing into the matter.
