Fireworks expected today at MOE ground

Smalta Girls’ Pee-Wee Football Tournament 2016

The excitement continues this weekend in the third annual Petra Organisation/ Smalta Girls Pee-Wee Schools Football Championships at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.

The first of eight matches will kick off at 10:00h with defending champions St. Stephen’s Primary taking on opening day winner St. Margaret’s Primary. Both teams will look to continue their winning ways and press claim as early favourites for the title.

Former Champions, Stella Maris will look to rebound from defeat when they take on St. Angela’s Primary who is also looking for their first taste of victory after drawing their opening game against F.E. Pollard who will take on Enterprise Primary.

Last week’s opening fixtures saw 16 goals being scored with three coming from Enterprise and today another goal rush is expected.

The teams will once again be in action tomorrow at the same venue with eight more round robin matches. From 10:00h.

At the end of the group stage of matches, the top two finishers from each group will progress to the quarterfinals.

The remaining eight teams will faceoff for positions 9th to 16th until the tourney ends on December 17.

Trophies will be awarded to all 16 teams, while medals will be awarded to the top two finishers. On the individual side, accolades will be awarded to the Most Valuable Player, the Highest Goal Scorer and the Best Goalkeeper.
