Former Guyanese cricketers on show at Guyana Softball Independence Cup in Canada

Four teams are set to compete at the annual Guyana Independence Softball Cup on Saturday at St Bedes in Canada.
The 20-over action will commence at 09:30h, and some exciting cricket is predicted given the fact that a large number of top-quality softball players will be exhibiting their talents. Several former Guyanese players will be representing various teams at the event.
The Ontario Softball Cricket League (OSCL) in collaboration with the Guyana Consulate in Toronto will run off the day’s event, which runs parallel to celebrate Guyana’s 50th Independence Anniversary.

Association and the Ontario Masters Softball Cricket Clubs will be participating.
According to the coordinator of the softball extravaganza, Albert Ramcharran, all systems are in place and no doubt the day’s proceedings should be exhilarating as well.
“I [am] very confident we will have a wonderful day of softball matches from these four teams,” he related via email.
Ramcharran, who is also current President of the OSCL, further revealed that the League’s team have already been selected and was optimistic they could make an impression.
He stated that Honorary Acting Consul General for the Guyana Consulate in Toronto, Mishelle NH Butters is expected to grace the occasion, along with staff from her office.
Clyde Gulliver, an Assistant Consular Officer of the Consulate, informed this publication that the High Commissioner for Guyana in Canada was invited to attend the event, but would not make it owing to other commitments.
However, representatives from the main sponsors: Fly Jamaica, Western Union and Caribbean Airlines among others are set to be in attendance. The day’s event will conclude with a presentation of prizes and trophies.
Some of the ex-Guyanese players are: Sunil Dhaniram, Zaheer Haniff, Dillon Heyliger, Rovendra Mandolall, Andy Chinsammy, Azib Alli Hanif, Hemnarine and Harrienarine Chattergoon, Shiv Seeram, Devon Ramnauth, and Riaz Kadir.
