Foulis man shot during robbery

A Foulis, East Coast Demerara man is currently hospitalised and nursing a gunshot wound to his shoulder, after three armed bandits pounced on him and his employer upon their return from the bank.
Injured is 37-year-old Lukpaul Sukhai of Foulis Housing Scheme. According to reports, the incident occurred sometime around 15:00h on Friday.
Guyana Times understands that Sukhai and his employer went to a city bank earlier in the day to withdraw money and then went to Camp Street, where from there the men drove back to Foulis, unaware that they were being followed.
When they arrived in front of the contractor’s house, his wife and a relative came out and opened the gate. At that point, a white 212 Toyota motor car rushed up in front of the house and two men, one of whom was armed with handgun, immediately exited.
The armed man then discharged a round at Sukhai, hitting him in his right shoulder. After being shot, and with his employer still in the car, the injured man drove away from house. The bandits then turned their attention to the businessman’s wife and the relative, Sumal Budhnarine.
At the time, Budhnarine, 23, also of Foulis Housing Scheme, had a haversack which contained ,000 and three women’s top. The two bandits snatch the bag and rushed back into the car, where they had a third accomplice who drove them away.
The injured Sukhai was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he has been admitted a patient. Even with a bullet lodged in his shoulder, the 37-year-old man is listed as stable.
The Police have since launched an investigation into the robbery. No arrest has been made.
