Golden Fleece residents disappointed

– 1 year and dilapidated bridge still not fixed

Residents, especially motorists, utilising the Golden Fleece bridge in Region Two (Essequibo Coast) are very dissatisfied at its present condition; and despite several reports to the Regional Administration, the bridge is yet to be fixed.

Residents say a report about the condition of the bridge was made to Regional Executive Officer Rupert Hopkinson one year ago, but, to date, no action has been taken in regard to its rehabilitation, and its deterioration continues unabated, even though it has to be used on a daily basis.

At the moment, they say, several boards have been removed from the bridge, and the front of the bridge is almost collapsing.

“Why over and over we have to complain one thing! Many persons use this bridge every day!” an irate resident contended.

Residents are calling on the relevant authorities to give the bridge priority in the Region’s budget.
