Guyana officially kick starts jubilee celebrations

as Guyana celebrates its 50th Independence Anniversary, the celebrations officially kicked off on Thursday evening at the Guyana National Stadium with a “Night of Spiritual Upliftment”.

The event would have featured performances by Kester Dean, Edward Neblett, Aditya Persaud, Dave Dynamics, Miriam Williams and others.

The celebrations will continue this evening with “Everything Guyanese”. This event will feature the Yoruba

Singers, Otishka Drummers, Dubraj Tassa Drummers, Korokwa Singers and many others.

Then on Saturday evening, all roads will lead to the National Stadium for “Night of the Legends”. This will feature some of the persons who have contributed to the music industry over the years and will include performances by Dave Martins and the Tradewinds, Terry Gajraj, Sammy Baksh, Keith Waithe and the Makushi Singers along with Cecila Samaroo and Ivor Lynch.

The weekend activities will culminate with the “Nexxt Generation Concert” on Sunday evening. At this event, the thriving artistes will take to the stage to showcase their talents and “power voices”. Patrons will be entertained by reigning Carib Soca Monarch Jumo Primo, Lisa Punch, Adrian Dutchin, Shelly G, Kwasi Ace, Heatwaves Band, Vanilla and others.

In addition, there will be a special event titled “Taste of Guyana” on Sunday which will see the various Guyanese cuisines on display and up for sale.

Tickets for all events at the Guyana National Stadium will cost $500 for adults and $300 for children above the

age of 12. Those under 12 will be admitted free.

In addition to the four-day event at the Guyana National Stadium, there will be a “Fashion Extravaganza” at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre. This event commenced last evening and will continue tonight before ending on Sunday evening.

It will see a display of fabulous pieces by Donna Ramsammy-James, Sonia Noel, Olympia Small-Sonoram, Michelle Cole, Randy Madray and other prominent designers in the land.

The fashion show begins at 17:00h each night.
