Guyanese craft producer dies at Carifesta

After journeying to Barbados to participate in Carifesta XIII, a self-sponsored Guyanese crafter fell ill and succumbed while receiving treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Friday.
The dead woman has been identified as Petal Frank, who was attached to the Guyana Arts and Craft Producers Association (GACPA).
Reports by the Education Ministry revealed that Frank, shortly after arriving on the island, came down with a sudden aliment and was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday. However, despite the best efforts of medical practitioners, the woman’s condition worsened, resulting in her subsequent death.
Even though the crafter was not an official member of the Guyanese contingent, the Ministry acknowledged her participation as a significant representation of Guyana at the regional showcase.
As such, the Government of Guyana through the Education Ministry’s Department of Culture, Youth and Sport has pledge commitment in supporting the preparations for her funeral.
President David Granger and Education Minister Nicolette Henry have extended condolences to the relatives and loved ones of Frank.
