Guyanese shot dead in England

A father of three was on Friday evening killed while attending a house party in Craydon, London.

Akeem Moore, called “Tuggzy”, 24, of Craydon, London, and formerly of Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, was found lying in a pool of blood at a house at Eastney Road, Craydon.

It was reported that the young man was at a party and at about 23:25h gunshots rang out. He was shot once and was pronounced dead when Police and an ambulance service arrived at the scene.

Persons in the area reportedly told Police that the party atmosphere quickly transformed from laughter to screams. Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating the shooting incident but no one was arrested.

Rockel Sinclair, a cousin of the dead man told Guyana Times that her family here in Guyana received the dreaded news on Saturday morning but was not told much about the shooting incident. She noted the circumstances that lead to the shooting incident were not immediately available to the family.

“We were only told that he was shot and killed but the details were not given to us”, she noted. The young man left Guyana about 13 years ago and was sent back to Guyana after some conflicts with relatives.

He however started school but after a few years, he travelled back to London where he lived up to the time of his death. He leaves to mourn his three children, parents and siblings.

Meanwhile, the UK Sun reported that Police believe they know the identity of the victim however they are awaiting formal identification.

According to the news agency, a number of tributes flowed in at the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Lee Watling said: “I need to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Eastney Road area late on Friday night. I would urge any witnesses or anyone with information that may assist the investigation, to call [the] Police and tell us what they saw or what they know.”

One resident in the area said “all the women in the garden went from laughing to screaming.”

Police have cordoned off the area of the crime scene while forensic officers continue to investigate.
