Heightened security in Linden for festive season – Commander

Pesidents of Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara/Berbice) can expect increased Police presence/beefed up security, heading into the festive season, ‘E’ Division (Linden-Kwakwani) Commander Fazil Karimbaksh confirmed.

Karimbaksh noted that there will be an increase in Police patrols, mainly in busy areas such as Central Mackenzie, while Amelia’s Ward will see the presence of mobile Police on motorcycles and ATVs. He also outlined that there will be uniformed as well as foot patrols in civilian clothing.

He noted that river patrols will also be operating daily out of Wismar. Sniffer dogs will be assisting to curb the crime situation associated with this time of the year. Residents can also look forward to intensified roadblocks.

The Commander noted that Police will be conducting targeted precise operations, and that there will be collaboration with Community Policing Groups with 24-hour patrols established.

While some promoters in the community have voiced concerns over the 02:00h curfew being in effect, the Commander assured that it is being enforced for enclosed as well as open air parties. He explained that the intention is not to harass people but to be in coherence with the law.

Karimbaksh is also encouraging residents to report any criminal activity that they may be aware of, noting that the information will be treated with strict confidentiality. (Utamu Belle)
