Heritage Pageant delegates sashed

Ten beauties of the nine Amerindian nations spanning the breadth of Guyana, who are vying for this year’s Indigenous Heritage Pageant, were officially sashed on the second day of the Inter-Heritage Games and Fun Day on Saturday afternoon, at the Everest Cricket Ground in Georgetown, as this month’s celebrations continue in full swing.
Cheers erupted from the crowd as the delegates confidently took to the stage to briefly introduce themselves, boasting bilingual attributes by addressing supporters in their native tongues as well as the English language.

The event was well attended by a wide section of the diverse Guyanese population, who took time off to indulge in the true Indigenous experience of the nation’s first peoples, including representatives from the Indigenous People’s Affairs Ministry, Parliament and the diplomatic corps.
Following the sashing, a highly competitive game of football commenced which had the crowd in an uproar.
Families flocked the Indigenous food, craft and beverages stands as children pranced around on trampolines and engaged in games of the like, while others simply stood by sipping on Indigenous beverages engaging in small talk or the game on the field.
The Amerindian Heritage Pageant is set to be hosted on the evening of September 30, 2017, at the National Cultural Centre; a night showcasing beauty, intelligence and culture.
Generally, the programme encompasses an introduction segment followed by talent, intelligence, evening wear, traditional wear and the final question segment, which will see the delegates being grilled on their respective platforms, succeeded by highlight of the evening; the crowning of the fittest delegate who will hold the title for two consecutive years.
Meanwhile, the Indigenous heritage games will culminate today with a playoff by the two final teams in a competitive game of football among other sports. (Paula Gomes)
