Horse racing returns to the ‘Big Yard’ on Sunday

Kris Jagdeo Construction in collaboration with the Port Mourant Turf Club (PMTC) will be hosting a grand one-day horse race meeting with seven major events slated for Sunday November 26 from 13:00h.

Jack In My Style will once again be looking to blaze the trail at PMTC on Sunday

All roads will lead to the Port Mourant Turf Club which is referred to as the ‘Big Yard’ by turfites because of the size of the track and seating capacity. The PMTC has not hosted a race in a while and this Sunday is expected to be a welcome return of high intensity and quality horse racing.
The feature race will be the “C” Class and lower which will see horses galloping over a distance of 1500M with the winner pocketing a whopping $800,000 while second place will walk away with a handsome prize of $400,000 and third place $200,000.
The other six events are for “E3” maidens and lower, the “H1” and lower, the 3-year old Guyana bred maidens and the “I” and lower. There will also be some excitement in the races for the 2 year-old open horses, among the winners in the J, K and L Classes and the L Class non-winners.
Prizes for the event are expected to total over $5,000,000 with 50 of the country’s top horses competing for prizes and bragging rights. Some of the horses that will be on show include; Jack In My style, Golden Blue Echo, Good Will boy, Lady Budapest, Brave Sky, Storm Bird, Just Call Me Boss, Cat Messiah, Release the Beast, It’s My Choice among others.
Registration has been extended to Friday and horse owners and jockeys may call C. Ramnauth on 337-5311 or Kris Jagdeo on 624-6123.
In addition to the gripping action on the track, there will be merry-go-round and bouncy castle for the children while food from Hot and Spicy and drink will be on sale.
The track is reportedly in excellent condition and a full day of racing is anticipated.
Admission is $1,000.
