Husband, wife jailed for narco trafficking

Fifty-two-year-old Gordon Williams, called “Monkey Harry,” of Lot 12 Perseverance Village, Essequibo Court, was on Friday jailed, along with his wife Lorna Scott, for narcotics trafficking.
Magistrate Sunil Scarce imposed on Williams a sentence of seven years’ imprisonment together with a fine of $30,000 after the defendant was found guilty of possessing 3840.5 kg of cocaine and cannabis.
Williams’s wife, Lorna Scott, was also fined $30,000 and sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for possessing 36.5 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
The court heard, during the trial, that on October 17, 2015 at about 16:30h, Police acting on information searched the couple’s Lot 12 Perseverance home and the cocaine was found on a coffee table.
During the search, 36.5 grams of cannabis were also found.
The ranks also seized US$4010 along with $258, 800 Guyana currency.
A lengthy trial was conducted into the matter, after which Magistrate Scarce found the couple guilty. They are also before the court on previous drug charges.
