Guyana Times Sport spoke to head coach Challus Mckinnon on Thursday at the team’s practice session, who explained that, “with the final day, what we looking at is to get the shape in our defence and rotate in our offense together; as a team, we are gelling well defensively and we are working on rotation, this being the first time we are playing Futsal, it will be challenging because most of the guys play on the field and the game is technically different.”
With the team being encamped just over a week,  Mckinnon further stated that “A lot of things we are supposed to be doing in Futsal, you cannot put in one week but it is a good start but if we play according to plan all things are possible.”
The team hosts some players who donned national colours and would have played in local championships and according to the head coach, this will be big boost since they players would have gained the necessary exposure.
“I think having these players would  be good because they are exposed in terms of playing football at various levels across Guyana and international, so it augers well for us,” the Futsal coach posited. Quizzed on what he knows of the opponents, Mckinnion says he has been doing research but expects a good tussle since the team comes from an environment where there are facilities.
“Knowing Suriname, they are always up for the fight, they are always ready to challenge Guyana and I know they have some amount of Futsal Facilities over there, I’m looking to see what they will be bringing” the coach revealed.
The matches will be played at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) on Saturday and Sunday, with the best of three matches taking the crown.
