Jaleesa Peterkin to represent Guyana at Miss Supranational beauty pageant

Twenty-seven-year-old Jalessa Mar-Chell Peterkin, who stands five feet, nine inches tall, is Guyana’s representative to the Miss Supranational Pageant to be held in Krynica-Zdroj, Poland, on December 2.
The Guyanese beauty is no newcomer to the world of pageantry. Making her pageant debut at the tender age of 17, this pageant queen has competed in pageant sessions including National American Miss, the Miss America Organisation, the Miss Universe Organisation and Miss Earth. She has also competed at local and international levels.
Growing up in New York City, Perterkin has always had a love for fashion. She is a former model and has even had the chance to grace the runway of Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week. She studied Journalism at Hofstra University and hopes to one day become the Editor-in-Chief of a world renowned high fashion magazine.
One of her favourite hobbies is travelling. She feels blessed that she has been able to experience this luxury and enjoys being able to fully immerse herself in new cultures. peterkin-1
Travelling not only enhanced her cultural competency, but it also sparked an interest in knowing her own genealogy. She invested time tracing her roots to create her family tree, but not knowing her grandmother and that of her maternal side of the family left a void.
That void did not sit well with the beauty ambassador and she made it her mission to locate her estranged grandmother and develop a relationship. It was just this past year that she was finally able to meet her grandmother and learn about that part of her family. During this time, she learned about her Guyanese heritage and of her grandmother’s life before she left Guyana.
Having fallen in love with Guyanese culture and getting to visit Guyana two summers ago, this was a pleasant discovery for her.
Proud of her multi-Caribbean heritage, Peterkin is ecstatic to have been asked to be the very first Guyanese representative at Miss Supranational beauty pageant.
Determined to make a name for Guyana at this prestigious event, she is sure that her passion, drive, and prior pageant experience will give her a fair chance at the coveted Miss Supranational crown.
This Caribbean-American beauty was born in Brooklyn, New York and currently resides in Staten Island with her dog Honey.
The beauty ambassador can be followed on the official Miss Supranational Guyana page on Facebook.
