Kildonan family granted bail on gun charge

Kildonan, Central Corentyne residents Herman De Souza, 61; his wife, Seeranie Bechuah, 51; and their 18-year-old son Devon De Souza were on Friday arraigned before Whim Magistrate Charlyn Artiga on a charge of having in their possession one improvised single-barrel shotgun at their home on August 1st, without having the relevant licence.

Police ranks reportedly acting on intelligence had gone to Kildonan Village, Corentyne Coast, East Berbice and conducted a search on a two-storey house for arms and ammunition. The officers found an improvised single barrel shotgun without ammunition hidden in the lower flat.

The DeSouzas denied the allegation and were placed on bail of $225,000.
