Largest crowd expected for South American 10k

The Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG) hosted the official launch of the Guyana leg of the 14th edition of the South American 10K Road Race Classic at the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA), High Street on Wednesday.
The opening leg of the annual race took place in Suriname on October 30 and will shift to Panama this Sunday before the final leg in Guyana on November 20. The feature year end race attracts participants from across the continent and Caribbean region.
A championship trophy and US,000 will be awarded to the top senior finishers in the men and women’s categories.
The first, second, third and fourth runners up will pocket US0, US0, US0 and US0 along with trophies respectively.
Junior athletes (16-20 years) as well as Masters (Women 35+), Men (40-55) and (56 and above) will also take home trophies and cash prizes.
The top four juniors will receive US0, US0, US0 and US each while the top four Masters (Women 35+), Men (40-55) will run off with US0, US0 and US respectively.

Masters (56 and above) top three finishers will collect GY$25,000, GY$15,000 and GY$5, 000 in that order while entrance fees of GY$1000 for Open and GY$500 for Junior and Masters.
In addition to the open category running 10K, there will also be a 3K for the ages 12-14 years while there will be a 1K for kids 10-12years old.
The event will commence at 16:00h on Carifesta Avenue (in front of GTT Earth Station), proceed to the University of Guyana and return to the National Park for the conclusion in front of the Rights of a Child monument.
According to president of the AAG, Aubrey Hutson, indicated that there will definitely be an influx of the usual suspects who dominate road race in the continent including previous winners and the top runners from the only English speaking nation in South America.
It was revealed by the AAG president that there will be a one hour and 15 minutes window period for the race to be completed without vehicular interference.
It was further revealed that a number of sponsors are on board, including Rainforest Waters and Fitness Express. Speaking on behalf of the fitness company, Chief Executive Officer, Jamie McDonald explained that it is a pleasure to be in collaboration with the event and is always looking forward to participate.
The Peruvian duo of Yerson Orellana and Luis Ostas placed first and second respectively in the men’s open category of the second leg of the 13th Annual South American 10km Classic Road Race in Guyana, while Trinidadian Tonya Nero finished ahead of Guyana’s premier female road runner Euleen Josiah Tanner in the female category.
