Mangal, Latif hit opening round centuries

Digicel Triple Treat 2017

The second annual Digicel Triple Treat cricket competition bowled off last Sunday at the Perseverance Beach on the Essequibo Coast with 14 matches.

There were lots of interest shown for the Essequibo based tournament with 28 teams registering and on the opening day there were lots of action that set the pace for the rest of the competition. United Warriors 1 beat Jaguars by 154 runs to register the biggest victory of the day while Die Hard Brothers crushed Mashabo by 130 runs in another assault on the rubber ball.

Batting first, Die hard Brothers raced to 246 for 1 from their 10 overs with Richard Latif blasting an unbeaten 116. The experienced right hander was supported by V. Surujpaul with 69 and Patrick Rooplall 55 not out as the batsmen entertained the huge Sunday crowd at the popular beach. In reply, Mashabo played confidently but ended on 116 for 2 from their allotted overs with D. Williams making 37 and O. Abrams getting 27. Local boy, Patrick Rooplall picked up both wickets to finish with 2-15 from two overs.

Invaders Masters (133-5 from 10 overs) beat United Warriors (109-7 from 9 overs) by five wickets.

United Warriors 1 (214-2 from 10 overs) beat Jaguars (60 all out from 6.5 overs) by 154 runs. Ganesh Mangal made 128.

Richmond Warriors (137-5 from 10 overs) beat Lima Sands (94-7 from 10 overs) by 43 runs.

GT Warriors (161-4 from 10 overs) beat Reliance Young Stars (97-8 from 10 overs) by 64 runs.

Affiance Storm (191-2 from 10 overs) beat Gold Dust (156-6 from 10 overs) by 35 runs.

Devonshire Castle (113-4 from 8.2 overs) beat Queenstown (109-6 from 10 overs) by six wickets.

Golden Fleece SC (144-5 from 10 overs) beat Rising Sun (126 all out from 9.2 overs) by 18 runs.

AK Dealers (91-1 from 5.4 overs) beat Sun Risers Over 40 (90-5 from 10 overs) by nine wickets.

Golden Fleece Rising Warriors (102-2 from 8.3 overs) beat RG 11 (98 all out from 10 overs) by eight wickets.

There were walkovers for United Brothers over Electronics SC, Adventure SC over Cotton Field Wild Oats and Fire Station over Sudden Stars.

The action will continue today at the Perseverance Beach with second round action. The final is slated for the Anna Regina ground on Saturday April 22 when the duck curry completion and the grand closing stage show will be held to bring the curtains down on the Digicel Triple Treat.
