Cornel Jacobs pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that on August 4, 2016, at Mackenzie Market, he had in his possession 12 grams of cannabis. Jacobs told the court that he is a coconut water vendor in the vicinity of the Mackenzie Market. He said that he was paid with the cannabis, instead of cash, for four coconuts by a customer who told him to boil the weed with “Bora Bora root” and “Bamboo leaf” to cure his illness. He added that shortly afterwards he was intercepted by Police and found with the drugs.

The unrepresented man begged Magistrate Judy Latchman for leniency and promised he would not use the illegal substance anymore. This was to no avail.
