Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs Minister Sydney Allicock donated $25,000 to save the fish species which is dying due to the low water levels in the Yupukari River.
The situation was brought to the Minister’s attention during a meeting with the North Rupununi District Development Board (NRDDB). The commitment was made by Technical Director of CI, Rene Edwards to provide the use of the vehicles, a Government Information Agency (GINA) stated.
The donation was received by NRDDB Treasurer Lakeram Haynes. Members of the NRDDB thanked Minister Allicock for his support in protecting the fish and committed to acting as quickly as possible to rescue those affected.
