Jewel Coates, 35, of West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, is accused of wilfully contributing to her three-week-old child being in need of protective intervention on September 30, 2016 at West Ruimveldt.
In court on Monday, Coates said that the father of her child took away the baby’s belongings and went on a drinking spree. She further explained that as such, she left the child for a few hours and went to an aunt’s home.
However, upon her return, she did not find the child, but was told that she was taken to the home of an older sister. Later in the day, she visited the baby, but was not permitted to breastfeed her. In court, she told the Magistrate that she did not want the child.
She was remanded to prison, but would return today for a report.
