Pomeroon boat operator arrested with unlicensed gun, ammo

A 51-year-old man was on Monday arrested by Police ranks in F Division (Interior regions) after being found in possession of a small calibre firearm with one live round. Detained is Leroy Benjamin, a boat operator who is a resident of Grant, Pomeroon in the Essequibo River.

According to reports reaching Guyana Times, ranks attached to the Issano Police Station were at the time on river patrol at Barakat Landing, Puruni River when they noticed Benjamin acting in a suspicious manner. As such, a search was conducted on his person, after which an unlicensed 0.32 semi-automatic pistol and one magazine containing a matching round of ammunition were retrieved from his possession.

As a result, the suspect was taken into Police custody and is currently being processed for court. Benjamin is set to make his first appearance today.

This report came just days after a couple in Georgetown was arrested for the possession of two firearms and several live rounds of ammunition.
