PPP reiterates call for assistance to hurricane ravage islands

…again urges Govt to assist affected Guyanese

The Opposition People’s Progressive Party has extended its sympathies and commiserations to the Government and peoples’ of the Caribbean nations, which have been devastated by yet another Hurricane – Maria – which ravaged the island of Dominica and is en route to Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and The Bahamas.
According to the Party, from all indications, the destruction and dislocations have been massive. “We continue to hope that our brothers and sisters in the affected areas show the resilience which we know they are capable of and have the strength to survive this latest disaster,” the Party stated.
The Party added that as was noted following Hurricane Irma, “we reiterate our call upon the Government of Guyana to immediately initiate steps to provide assistance to our Caribbean brothers and sisters and to assist with the evacuation of Guyanese living on the affected islands who are desirous of being evacuated.” The Party noted that it stands with those affected in this time of their tragedy.
