Republic Cup 4 bowls off tomorrow

The fourth edition of the Georgetown Softball Cricket League Inc Republic Cup will commence tomorrow with lots at stake in the three-day tournament.

The tournament will be played in two categories; Male Open and Masters’ (over 40) with the champion team taking home trophies, cash prizes and bragging rights in the very competitive softball arena. The man-of-the-match in the finals and the MVP in each category will also be rewarded splendidly.

ball and both round handed and wrist bowling will be accepted.

Everest CC and GNIC are among the venues identified for the preliminary games which will continue on Saturday while the finals will be contested on Sunday at Everest.

Fresh from victory in the KPL tournament, Regal will look to add to their collection of prizes and they continue to prepare for the Florida Cup in Fort Lauderdale at the end of February. However, they can expect stiff competition from Floodlight, Savage and the fast improving Mike’s Wellman in the Masters category while in the open segment challenges are expected to come from Speed Boat, Farm, Success and Mike’s All-Stars.

Among the players expected to be on show are Richard Latif, Chien Gittens, Lennox Marks, Roohit Dutchin, Wazir Hussain and Sachin Ramsarran in the open division. In masters segment fans can look forward to fireworks from the experienced Mahendra Hardyal, Mike Singh, Ricky Deonarine, Mahendra Arjune, Eric Thomas, Rudolph Baker, Greg De Franca, Uniss Yusuf and Wayne Jones.
