Royals top 1st round after dismissing Raider 98-72

MSC Open Basketball

Led by the awesome trio of Orlando Glasgow with 31 points, Harold Adams with 19 and Chris Williams with 15, the Victory Valley Royals triumphed over reigning champions Retrieve Raiders, coasting to a 98-72 routing of the opposition to end round one as the points leader in the chase for the coveted title of Mackenzie Sports Club Open League title, being staged by the Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA).

Playing at the tournament venue last Friday night, Royals effectively closed out what was appearing to be a close contest when the first quarter ended with them ahead 17-16, and at half time 43-36.
However, expectations were dashed when the game petered out to a no-contest later, with Neil Marks netting 18 points and Keon Cameron 16, as Dauwin Lovell contributed 13 in a losing cause. The Royals went into overdrive and won the game to record 12 points from six wins in this even-team tournament.

These ended on the carpet with six losses, while the Falcons from two wins and four losses are on eight points, with the Flames on seven from one win and five defeats.
On Saturday night, Half Mile Bulls secured their fifth win, easing past Amelia’s Ward Jets 68-46 with Akini Wilson getting 19 points and Donnel Benjamin 18 for the Jets, who are third with 10 points from four wins and two defeats. The Christianburg Pistons are still to record a win; after six games, they are on six points. A. Iniss and Mark Louis scored 14 and 12 points respectively for the Pistons.
