Security beefed up for jubilee

As Guyana prepares to celebrate its 50th independence anniversary, Public Security Minister Khemraj Ramjattan has reassured tourists and Guyanese that security has been beefed up, noting that “this Golden jubilee celebration will definitely be secure and stable.”

Ramjattan when prompted about Guyana 50th Independence security strategies, said, “There are lots of other things we can do that require resources but we are going to get resources… only recently the Canadians and the British indicated that they are coming to our assistance relating to those matters, the Americans have always been close to us and it will definitely be a secure stable jubilee celebrations and thereafter.”

The Minister further added that the process of professionalising the Guyana Police Force (GPF) has commenced and over the past months, the GPF has been strengthening its capacity by conducting a series of training sessions, both locally and internationally.

“Only two days ago we got almost 20 vehicles and that will enhance patrols in and around of Georgetown,” he said urging that ranks take care the vehicles since it makes no sense that the State is spending hundreds of millions of dollars to purchase vehicles that have to end up in workshops due to the carelessness of Police Officers.

Ramjattan is urging celebrants to be positive since he is positive the Government is on track. “I want you to be positive because I am positive we are going to get it right.”
