Soesdyke man crushed to death on chicken farm

One day after a labourer attached to Shameer’s Poultry Farm, Soesdyke/Linden Highway was pinned by a metal silo; he succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital. The accident occurred at about 15:00h on Wednesday.

Dead is Krishna Surujlall, 50, of Lot 2 Public Road, Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara (EBD). He took his last breath at about 03:21h on Friday.

According to reports, the man was working on the farm when the silo gave away, squeezing him in the process. He would have suffered a fracture shin bone, a broken leg and severe internal injuries.

His wife, Nanda Surujlall told Guyana Times that her husband left home on Wednesday morning, but later in the day she received the devastating news. “All they tell me is that he was working and the Silo fell on his… he get squeeze in he belly,” she noted.

Her husband, she noted was picked up and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, but due to his injuries he was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital. The aggrieved wife noted that upon receiving the news, she immediately went to the hospital where she saw her husband lying on a stretcher.

She however, noted that he cried out for severe pains while being admitted to the medical facility. She last saw him alive on Thursday afternoon when she visited him, but would have received the news of his demise sometime at about 04:00h. The father of four worked with the poultry farm for the past nine months. His body is at the Georgetown Public Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination scheduled for Monday. Meanwhile, the management of the establishment has met with the family members of the dead man and has committed to take care of all the funeral expenses.

Surujlall leaves to mourn his wife, four children and siblings among other relatives.
