GCC Softball 10/10 tournament

Speedboat team emerged victorious in the Georgetown Cricket Club softball 10/10 tournament walking away with $90,000 cash prize, hosted on Sunday at the GCC ground, Bourda.
The tournament originally slated for the weekend, but due to the inclement weather was only allowed to play on Sunday saw an action packed day inclusive of five high profile games with Speedboat team emerging the overall champions.
The surprise event of the day say two female teams going head to head for bragging rights in a five a side contest. Dyna’s Warriors

managed 30 in their five overs with Raquel Parris scoring a match winning 17 over the Dyna’s Scorpions (Females) who only managed 20.
In the first match of the day, Speedboat destroyed Dyna’s Scorpions posting a massive 254 lead by a strong 223* from Shamzim Hussain. Hussain smashed 31 maximums in his innings making him the first player to score a double hundred in a ten over tournament at Bourda. In reply, Scorpions managed a meager 18 all out.
In the second contest, Noble House went up against the Speedboat team posting 89 runs from their 10 overs and the Speedboat team chased it down with ease racing to 90 for the loss of seven.
Noble house then contested against the mighty Dyna’s Scorpions to see who would play Speedboat XI in the finals. Noble House posted an entertaining 142 from their 10 overs with Amir Khan making a promising 93. Dyna’s Scorpions then crumbled again for 70 making it two defeats in just as many games.
The final was set with Speedboat taking on Noble House. Speedboat won the toss and elected to bat posting a commanding 152 in their 10 overs lead by Anand Bharrat’s top score of 41. The challenge put forward by Noble House looked like a close contest with Amir Khan once again contributing with a solid 45, but all hope seemed to be lost as the overs quickly ran out, leaving Noble House stranded on 90/5.
Graham Alli, club captain of the GCC was in high praises of the efforts made by the teams as well as Paul’s Imports and Distributors noting that this event was particularly important as it was looking to raise funds to restore the historic GCC.
Alli added that based on the success of this tournament, the management of the GCC are already looking forward to planning a next tournament slated for November and is looking to introduce more females into the competition as well as start a female GCC softball team.
