Universal DVD U15 begins on October 29

The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) organized and Universal DVD Store sponsored Under-15 50 Overs competition is expected to bowl off on October 29 with the main aim to recruit players ahead of the 2018 domestic season.

According to a press release, newly elected BCB President Dhieranidranauth Somwaru said the competition is expected to target some 30 players from across the four zones, namely; Upper Corentyne, Lower Corentyne, New Amsterdam/Canje and Western Berbice who will then commence training ahead of next year’s inter-county games.
Played under round robin rules, the tourney according to Chairman of Junior Selectors Leslie Solomon will help selectors to properly assess the physical status of the youngsters while creating various match scenarios to help with their game.
Some 15 players will be selected to represent each geographical area, and coaches and managers will also be assigned to each team by the Board. Somwaru said in the release that he was optimistic the U15 level coupled with the Board under his new leadership, will groom youngsters for the future while still focusing on the further senior players and often times, and the juniors are not given their desired recognition.
The Venues for the competition are; Port Mourant Community Center, Albion Community Center, Blairmont Community Center, Rose Hall Community Center. The final is expected to be played at the Albion Community Center on November 19, 2017.
