Upper Pomeroon labourer commits suicide 

As Guyana joins the rest of the world in observing World Suicide Prevention Day, another Guyanese has been recorded as taking his life by his own hand.
A 47-year-old man of Dredge Creek, Upper Pomeroon River, Region Two, (Pomeroon-Supenaam) tragically ended his life by consuming a poisonous substance. Dead is Jeorol Newsum.
Reports are Newsum was discovered by his wife Mordella Williams on September 5, 2017, at about 22:30h. Following the discovery, the labourer was immediately rushed to the Charity Oscar Joseph Hospital and later transferred to the Intensive Care Unit of the Suddie Public Hospital.
He battled for his life for several hours before succumbing on September 6.
According to information reaching this publication, Newsum was a habitual drinker and would often become abusive.
His body is presently at the Suddie Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination. Suicide continues to plaque the Pomeroon-Supenaam region; however, several nonprofit organisations have come onboard to help curb the issues through various educational programmes in the region.
