V-Net Communications aiming to rejuvenate Tape Ball cricket

Tape-ball can be played by anyone and the risks of injury are far less in comparison to that played with the leather ball. However in recent times, there seems to be a decline in the popularity of the sport in Guyana even though are some ardent followers.

In this regard V-Net Communications is seeking to play a role in helping to bring the sport back to its prime. Managing Director of the Delph Street, Campbellville located entity Safraz Sheriffudeen recently told Guyana Times Sport that the sport had created much hype yesteryear and it gave ‘hard ball’ players an avenue to showcase their skills in the off-season.

Given that rain, hardly hampers the playing of the sport since it is played on a tarmacs , the Manager Director feels that it allow for competition to be played year round.

With the intention of improving the standard of Tape-Ball cricket Sheriffudeen has formed a team called the V-Net Vipers which has some Guyana’s leading players in their arsenal such as Keemo Paul, Kemol Savoury, Anthony Adams and Kevon Boodie.

The Vipers have already injected venom with victories in the Independence Super Six and a self-sponsored Super Eight tournament.

Sheriffudeen quest is not stopping in Georgetown , since he plans to return to Wakenaam to organize wind ball competition for schools. Only in May the company partnered with Paul to donate sporting equipment to the small community of Saxacalli, located on the West Bank of the Essequibo River some 25 miles south of Parika.

The Vipers are currently preparing for the lucrative Transcend Entertainment Tape Ball Cricket Festival on Sunday at the National Park Tarmac.
