Suspect in Guyana Goldfields employee’s murder likely for court today

As Police wrap up their investigation into the murder of Neil Whyte, who was found stabbed to death in his apartment, the confessed murderer is expected to make his court appearance today at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The suspect, who hails from Middle Road, La Penitence, Georgetown and who was employed with a taxi service in Fifth Street, Alberttown, Georgetown, confessed to killing Whyte during a robbery.
A Police source told Guyana Times that the completed file on the matter would be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions this morning and once it was returned in a timely manner, the suspect would be arraigned with the murder.
The 28-year-old taxi driver was arrested on Thursday last and confessed to the heinous crime after a few hours of interrogation.
Upon his confession, he led a team of Police ranks to a taxi base in Alberttown where he handed over several items belonging to the now dead man, along with a

knife suspected to be the murder weapon. Based on information received, the knife matched one that was missing from a set that was owned by the now dead man.
Investigators believed that Whyte might have put up a fight with his attacker thus the marks on his hands. Hours after Whyte’s body was discovered, a close friend of his was arrested and interrogated about the murder which he vehemently denied committing.
After reviewing all the evidence at their disposal, the detectives realised that the friend indeed visited Georgetown on the day Whyte was killed, but went to collect a female friend at a popular beauty salon.
Based on information received, after conducting business in the city, the young man drove back to Berbice. At no point in time did he visit the now dead man at his Thomas Street apartment.
His alibi was confirmed by CCTV footage collected from the Berbice Bridge Company, which proved that the young man crossed the Bridge way before the time Whyte was killed. As such, the young man was released on station bail.
Meanwhile, the post-mortem performed on the man’s body proved that he died from multiple stab wounds. Initially, it was reported that the man was stabbed at least seven times.
His nude and bloody body was found on his bed on Monday evening last. At the time of the discovery, his hands and feet were bound, and several stab wounds were seen on his neck and other parts of the body.
