2 nabbed with cocaine in Essequibo

A poultry farmer along with another person are expected to be charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking after they were found to be in possession of a quantity of cocaine on Saturday.

The men were nabbed after Police intercepted a grey-coloured Toyota AE 100 motorcar along the Riverstown Public Road. Reports reaching Guyana Times revealed the men were seen leaving the house of a popular drug dealer and were heading to Supenaam when the car was stopped and searched by the Police.

During the search on the vehicle bearing registration number HB 628, the 39-year-old poultry farmer attempted to discard a transparent piece of plastic that was hidden in the panel of the door.

Upon closer inspection, the Police suspected the whitish substance to be cocaine.

The plastic was unwrapped and it was confirmed to be cocaine.

The suspect reportedly offered the ranks $200,000 in bribe money to release him. He was subsequently arrested and the drug was weighed in his presence and amounted to 28 grams.

The farmer and the driver of the car are assisting the Police in their investigations.
