England based Samuel Coxhas been appointed the Golden Jaguars new captain for their two upcoming games
in the 2016/2017 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Scotiabank Caribbean Cup tournament.
Cox started his career in the Tottenham Hotspur Academy, having previously captained their under-16 team. He joined the academy full-time in the 2007–08 season and during the 2008–09 season, Cox signed his first professional after making 24 appearances in the under-18s and two substitute appearances in the reserve team and he made Golden Jaguars debut in May 2015.
The Jaguars turned out on Wednesday night against Curacao in Guyana with their starting lineup including the new captain, England Based, Samuel Cox,Alex Murray (Alpha United FC), Quincy Adams (Slingerz FC), Colin Nelson(Alpha United FC), Solomon Austin(Alpha United FC), Walter Moore (Finland), Ricky Shakes (Boreham Wood), Brandon Beresford (USA), Trayon Bobb(Slingerz FC), Sheldon Holder(Alpha United FC), and Emery Welshman (Real Salt Lake).
On the bench were Richie Richards (Alpha United FC), who replaced the injured Anthony Whyte while Adrian Butters replaces Christopher Nurse (Puerto Rico), and Anthony ‘awo’ Abrams replaces Jake Newton.
Other substitutes include Daniel Wilson (Alpha United FC), Kester Jacobs, Pernel Schultz, Devon Millington (Slingerz FC), Dwight Peters (Alpha United FC), andEon Alleyne (Fruta Conquerors FC).
Guyana is scheduled to play United States Virgin Islands on June 7 in the same country.
In Round One of the tournament Guyana had topped Group Five after defeating Anguilla 7 – 0 and Puerto Rico 1 – 0 in Guyana and Puerto Rico respectively.
