All roads lead to YWCC Mash Cup

Evans, Beharry to be honoured

For the first time, popular hangout spot, Candy Shop located in front of New Amsterdam Municipal Market will sponsorship for The Young Warriors Cricket Club fund raiser, Mash Cup 2017.

At the sponsorship ceremony, Tito Sancho commended the organisers for including Candy Shop Tucker Park for the first time. He added that he is happy to be part of this event.

In response, President of the club Rafeek Kassim expressed gratitude to the sponsor and promised that the event will be well run and provide fun and entertainment for the entire family. He further stated that YWCC will continue to provide opportunities for the young boys and girls in the East Canje area.

He stated that the success of the club over the years was as a result of hard work of some of its executives and players and he made special mention of Hubern Evans and Anil Beharry. He said that when the club was resuscitated, Evans and Beharry played important roles is transforming the ground from a pasture to its current position boasting two large concrete sight screens, two pavilions, top quality covers, concrete scoreboard and a billiards table like outfield. “Evans and Beharry were instrumental in the progress of the club and players such as Shimron Hetmyer, Damodar Daesrath, Richard Ramdeem, Gajanand Singh, Kwesi Maltay, Linden Austin, Balram Samaroo and many others,” the President continued. He said that those two gentlemen will be honored during the event.

Mash Cup IV is slated for this Sunday April 30 at the Cumberland Cricket Ground in East Canje, Berbice.

There is excitement in the air as the public looks forward to this signature event. Proceeds from this event runs the clubs cricket programme for the year while part proceeds go to religious and educational organisations as part of the club’s policy towards community development.

The action on the field will see eight teams namely: Adelphi Pathfinders, Betsy Ground Triple Stars, Goed Bananen Land, Rose Hall CC, Reliance Young and the Restless, Tucber, Electra Academy and the host battling in the five overs a-side cricket competition for prize monies of over $100,000.

Albion Masters, made up mostly of players who won the recently concluded Inter County Masters Tournament will compete against a team from the Georgetown based Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association team, Floodlights in a 15 overs a-side feature softball game.

There will be added attractions for the children and the entire family inclusive of live musical entertainment and a well stocked bar.
